Hi there, my name is Melanie Dahling. Yes, it’s pronounced the fun way. No, don’t try to resist the urge. Make a meal out of it, I insist. Now that’s out of the way, let’s talk a little about the Dahling behind the name.

I’m a writer and performer with a knack for witty & entertaining content. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, I cut my teeth in my hometown’s robust stand-up comedy scene. While finding my voice as a comedic performer, I was honoured to highlight other creatives as the Arts and Culture Reporter for The Uniter.

In 2017 I moved to Toronto, where the rent is high, and everyone seems so angry. It’s exhilarating, it’s terrifying, it’s everything my small city self wanted and more.

After arriving in the big smoke, I applied my writing skills to a copywriting job with an e-commerce site. I wrote product descriptions, Instagram captions, blogs, and print ads. Between you me and the trees, I was also the resident go-to for drafting difficult emails.

It’s a long story, but after some zig-zagging, chance encounters, and a few classes to refine my skills, I now find myself with a blossoming freelance career.

I work as a social media manager, copywriter, and am the second in command at Howl & Roar Records. Having my professional life in place has also given me the support and confidence I need to nurture my creative pursuits. I maintain a consistent schedule with my sketch troupe Boy Girl Party while auditioning for local productions, and I’m working on some exciting stand-up comedy plans for Autumn of 2022.
