Welcome to my website. I’m Melanie Dahling. I don’t know what else to tell you. I’m kind of in an “everything and nothing” stage of my life- or at least it feels that way.
I do a lot of things some of the time. I am a comedian, actor, writer, make-up artist, and Las Vegas enthusiast. I’d like to say “travel enthusiast”, but I don’t think walking from a New York themed casino all the way to a Venetian one counts.
I’ve been paid to do all of these things before, but I still feel pretty “in-betweeny” when it comes to my career. I think I’ve done some pretty cool shit, but I’m working my way up to my “moment.” I don’t know what that will be exactly, but I’ll know it when I see it, and in the meantime I have fun finding my way. I guess that’s what you can expect from this blog, dear reader.
This year has been pretty busy for me so far, and it’s about to get even busier. I’m hoping that, when looking back on this year of my life, it will be a stylish blur set to a hip cover of “she works hard for the money.” Here’s hoping I don’t get dangerously hopped up on some mysterious “pep pills” like every character on every show I grew up on.
To give you a little snapshot of what I’ve got going on for 2015:
I started working at Aveda Institute Winnipeg as a Frontline Advisor/make-up artist, I won a kooky contest and went to Las Vegas (wrap up post to follow), I received a grant to make my first short film from Winnipeg Film Group, I started teaching a workshop for aspiring female comedians, I secured a spot in the Winnipeg Comedy Festival as well as the SheDot Comedy Festival, AND I am currently writing a script for a show I’ll be producing for the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.
I was offered something in late summer, but it’s still in the works so I’m not allowed to talk about that yet.
So maybe my big moment is just around the corner. Or maybe all I get is a series of little moments, and maybe that’s all anyone gets… and maybe that is the theme of my Fringe Play, so maybe you should come see it. But what do I know?
Stay tuned, and keep your eyes on that “coming up” page would ya?
